Facebook will turn
the year-old Facebook Platform into an open source project. It will
allow any social network to become Facebook Platform compatible -
meaning application developers can easily take their Facebook
applications and have them run on those social networks, too.
Bebo
already licenses the Facebook Platform, which allows third parties to
make their Facebook applications work on Bebo, too.

Mark Brooks: Microsoft is hopefully watching
and learning from Facebooks open-sourcing moves. Facebook will win a
lot of favor for their openness, and that will bode well for their
brand over the long haul. Facebook continues to lead the social
networking industry in 'big bold moves.'
