According to ExactTarget's stats 72% of respondents prefer to receive opt-in promotional messages via email, while 0% prefer them via SNS. As more people replace their cellphones with smartphones, more will make the transition from SMS to email on their mobiles. It's also no secret that Yahoo and Gmail are both working on adding more SN functions to their email platforms. Meanwhile, email clients are already starting to do double-duty as RSS readers. Kiva: Improving People's Lives

Netlog Jumps Aboard OpenSocial

Netlog_logo MASHABLE -- May 28 -- Following its name change and $6.8m financing round last April, the European social network Netlog is taking a closer look at OpenSocial. Netlog is scheduled to announce at Google I/O in San Francisco that it is party to the initiative, making available the option for applications developed using OpenSocial standards to be used by the network's own 35m users, joining other social networks including MySpace, hi5, and Orkut in the initiative.
