AFP -- July 10 -- The attorney general of New York state announced
plans on Thursday to sue social network Tagged for deceptive email
marketing practices and invasion of privacy. "Consumers who visited
Tagged were tricked into providing the company with access to their
personal email contacts, which the company then used to send millions
of promotional emails," the statement said. Tagged suspended the email
marketing campaign in June. Tagged CEO Greg Tseng said the
"registration process" had produced some complaints but "in no instance
did Tagged access a person's personal address book without their
consent and no emails were sent without the person giving us
permission." With 80m registered users, Tagged, which was founded five
years ago, bills itself as the third largest social networking site in
the United States after Facebook and MySpace. FULL ARTICLE @ AFP
