FORBES - Nov 15 - Jive Software, the enterprise social networking company, went public last year. Since then there hass been much activity in the social enterprise sector. Yammer was acquired by Microsoft for $1.2 billion and Salesforce has continued to push its Chatter product.
Q: How it's been going as a public company?
A: Going public was really to establish the legitimacy of social software in the enterprise. It has been a great year for us. We've expanded our footprint in the marketplace. At the time we become public it was about games and coupons but it seems now the enterprise is cool again.
Q: Do you see a lot of more opportunity for new companies?
A: I believe so. It is about how do you change the way the company works, how do you deliver on employee productivity? McKinsey published a study. They estimate that companies are capable of unlocking 20 - 25% more workforce productivity through social technologies. It's no longer about how many users you have, its about how many are engaged and working differently.
Q: What is the competitive landscape like?
A: We are the only one sole public company that only does social collaboration software inside and outside the enterprise.
Q: Tell us about your recent acquisitions.
A: We have done 5 acquisitions since I've been CEO. We just announced 2 this past week: Meetings.io and Producteev, two technology companies, which bring technical innovation to Jive.
