one of the low-cost Internet calling players, is introducing its
FreeConnect service today, which will allow members to make unlimited
free mobile or landline calls to other members of the Jaxtr network
worldwide. Previously, callers had to pay a few cents a minute using

CRUNCH GEAR -- Nov 3 -- VoxOx was
founded by a group of voice networking ninjas who wanted to create a
desktop-based VOIP and chat solution with full IM and social network
integration. The phone service
includes 2 free hours of call time and a free
phone number. It also has a call forwarding system that sends calls to
multiple phones. VoxOx is still in Beta but most users familiar with Skype or Adium will find

INQUISITR -- Sep 4 -- Arzoola's
Social Call lets user make and receive free VOIP-powered calls through
social network-specific apps. The first application is designed with Craigslist in mind. Users go to Arzoola, enter their phone
number, zip code, and an expiration time, then it generates a code to post within their listing. The
code lets anyone click to call them without ever gaining access to their
phone number. While the tool is being marketed specifically for use on

TECH CRUNCH -- Aug 6 -- File this under must have for your trip to the Beijing Olympics. Jajah, a VoIP service provider has released a service that gives users English to Mandarin translation (and back). Early results say it works surprisingly well. Users call a phone number, say what they want translated into the phone, and then hand the phone to the other speaker. The message is then automatically played back in their language. launching a telephony platform and landing Yahoo as one of its first
clients, Jajah is well on its way to becoming a dominating force in the
world of VoIP Voice over Internet Protocol phone calls. Today, Gizmo5
(formerly SIPphone) has announced its decision to select Jajah 's
Managed Services platform to power portions of its own VoIP service. With the Gizmo5 and Jajah partnership, Gizmo5 will be using
the Jajah platform to handle all call termination and some other custom

Mark Brooks: I find Jajah most useful while traveling. When I go to a new city/country I pick up a $10 SIM card and then use Jajah to provision calls to the USA. Works great, although the calls can be pricey, it still beats the international call rates from the cell phone.

cofounder, Ben Dean and three other Jangl employees is joining
Jajah. "The company was finding its groove in the marketplace, but our

to fund us", Cerda said. Jangl had raised about $9m in VC funding from

provider JAJAH will power premium voice on Yahoo Messenger. Under the deal, JAJAH will provide its proprietary telephony

is finally turning on a revenue stream across its network of social
calling widgets, which reach a potential 80M social networking
profiles. The new advertising initiative is called Mobile Media Platform
and provides a set of APIs for publishers and ad units for advertisers.
Through the APIs, developers can integrate bits of Jangl's SMS and VOIP
calling functionality into their applications. The monetization side is
being handled in partnership with Pudding Media, and Ogilvy's Digital
Innovation Group. Jangl will have several different types of ad units
for advertisers, such as SMS ads tacked on to messages users send and
pre-roll audio ads that play during the time you'd normally spend

FIERCE VOIP -- Mar 3 -- Social networking VoIP player Jaxtr is claiming
10M subscribers within a year of launch. Last week it launched its
Jaxtr Cafe product, a VoIP-based application that enables users to
discuss topics of common interest. The application will also carry
advertising to finally secure some ad revenue. Many other operators
