Jajah Now Powers Low-Cost Long Distance For German O2 Subscribers

TECH CRUNCH - July 15 - Less then seven months after it was acquired by Telefónica Europe (aka O2), for $207M, VoIP service Jajah is launching its first integration with the large European carrier. O2 subscribers in Germany will now be able to designate up to five friends abroad as their Global Friends; Jajah will assign each of those friends local numbers, allowing you to call internationally from your mobile phone at local rates. Jajah Sold For $207 Million

O2 Rings Up Jajah For $200 Million

TECH CRUNCH - Dec 20 - Last month, we wrote about Jajah being the target of a bidding war. Today, it appears that war is over, with the winner being O2, and the price being $200M. Microsoft and Cisco were two other companies that were vying to get the company. Back in June, the company served up its 1 billionth VoIP call. While the company has some 15M subscribers of its own, many of the calls originate from Yahoo Messenger, which has used Jajah since 2008 for its VoIP calls. Phone Calling Coming To Twitter

CNET NEWS - Sep 16 - A new third-party offering from Jajah known as Jajah@call is expected to go into beta Thursday morning. Jajah@call will allow Twitter users to initiate a two-way voice chat with other users by typing "@call @username" where "username" is someone's Twitter ID. During the beta period the calls will be limited to two minutes, but the company will evaluate that length during beta. Jajah Connects 1 Billionth Call

TECH CRUNCH -- June 23 -- VoIP service provider Jajah is announcing an important milestone: the one billionth call connection on the its platform. Jajah CEO Trevor Healy says the service has attracted 25m users since its launch. By comparison, rival Skype boasts over 405m registered users globally and in a recent press release claimed people have made more than 100 billion minutes worth of free Skype-to-Skype calls alone. Mark Brooks: I use Jajah for calling from pay as you go cards on foreign cell phones.  Works great.  Sometimes the quality is a little patchy but it sure beats paying $1 a minute from a foreign cell.

Jajah Launches Instant Chinese/English Voice Translation

TECH CRUNCH -- Aug 6 -- File this under must have for your trip to the Beijing Olympics.  Jajah, a VoIP service provider has released a service that gives users English to Mandarin translation (and back).  Early results say it works surprisingly well.  Users call a phone number, say what they want translated into the phone, and then hand the phone to the other speaker.  The message is then automatically played back in their language. Mark Brooks: I find Jajah most useful while traveling.  When I go to a new city/country I pick up a $10 SIM card and then use Jajah to provision calls to the USA.  Works great, although the calls can be pricey, it still beats the international call rates from the cell phone.

The Attack Of The Ad-Sponsored Phone Call

CNN MONEY -- Jan 15 -- At the end of last year, privately held Internet phone company Jangl started testing "in-call" advertising. While customers wait for Jangl to connect their calls, the originating party may hear a short audio advertisement. Potential advertisers, Jangl says, include wireless game and ringtone purveyors. Jajah, also an Internet-based communications company, is set to launch in-call ads this year. REUTERS -- Nov 15 -- Jajah and Jangl have formed a partnership. Both companies provide alternative Internet based alternatives to traditional phone calls. They also offer calling services for social networking sites that allow users to call each other without revealing their mobile or home phone numbers. Jajah's strength is discount long-distance. Jangl has focused on offering phone services through Match.com, Facebook, and FriendFinder.
