Manhunt.net Wins More Awards Than They Can Carry

Manhunt_logoOPW -- Feb 8 -- Manhunt.net, the word's largest all male dating site, has just won the Cybersocket Web award for Best Adult Hook Up Site, The Weho Award for Outstanding Adult Website, and the highly respected Netizen award for Manhunt and Jonathan Crutchley from the Free Speech Coalition. The Cybersocket award, which weighed a whopping 20 lbs, was in the Surfer's choice category, naming them as the people's favorite online hook up destination. WeHo went one step farther, (and another 20 lb trophy) naming them the best overall Adult Website. But, it was the Free Speech Coalition that highlighted Manhunt's mission to give back to the industry and the community by awarding Manhunt and Jonathan Crutchley with the Netizen Award, given to the company and individual who has done the most and been the best citizen for the industry through the internet.

Mark Brooks: Manhunt.net is growing gangbusters and is now the category leader for gay dating sites. They charge $12 a month. Here's how they stack up against Gay.com and Adam4Adam on Alexa. (Full Disclosure: Manhunt is a client of Courtland Brooks).

Manhunt Parties On

Jonathan_at_party SNW -- Nov 27 -- In case you hadn't noticed, Manhunt is just chewing up the gay dating/social networking market. See this Alexa comparison of Manhunt, Gay.com, Gaydar and Adam4adam. See this Compete comparison of Manhunt, Gay.com and Adam4adam. Jonathan Crutchley co-Founder and Chairman, is a regular attendee of the Internet Dating Conference/Social Networking Conference and likes to throw parties at his houses in Boston and Palm Springs. He's in the picture with Chi Chi La Rue who was DJ at his recent pool party in Palm Springs for Manhunt.net in honor of Palm Springs Gay Pride.

What is Manhunt doing right? In short, they know the gay dating space, intimately. Their customer service is among the best in the industry and they charge just $12 a month. Also, have you noticed how the sites with the most 'playful' names are doing especially well on minimal ad spends. OnlineBootyCall, Manhunt, Plentyoffish.  All are playful, tongue in cheek names that travel well by word-of-mouth. Manhunt is full on and adult and has it's antithesis in myPartner.com which is, essentially, eHarmony for gay men. (Disclosure: Manhunt, myPartner and Plentyoffish are clients of Courtland Brooks) - Mark Brooks

Blabbermash: Video Agony Aunt

Blabbermash_logoOPW -- Nov 27 -- Michael Alvear writes Manhunt.net's advice column as their Cruise Director and is host for the U.K. hit TV Series The Sex Inspectors. Now he's launched Relationships, Dating and Sex video advice site, Blabbermash. Users load up a video with their rants/questions and get advice from viewers/readers. Alicia wants to know why guys ask how many people she slept with, Sirbgb wants to know what kind of dog will help him reel in women 'cos his current dog is getting him the wrong kind of dates, while Diane wants to know what's up with the guys with creepy Asian fetishes. A little too revealing, or is this the shape of things to come? Your comments please... - Mark Brooks

Manhunt.net, Michael Alvear, Cruise Director - Interview

MichaelalvearOPW INTERVIEW -- Sep 15 -- Michael Alvear is the cruise director for Manhunt and a sexpert. He's also the co-host of the TV show 'The Sex Inspectors' in which couples reveal their bedroom problems and are then filmed, yes filmed, in their bedroom. The program pushes the envelope for English TV. Here's my interview with Manhunt sexpert Mr Alvear. - Mark Brooks

How did you become a sex expert, Michael?
Seven or eight years ago, I was writing quirky op-ed columns. The syndicate for sex-advice columnist Dan Savage wouldn’t sell his column to gay newspapers and the editor was really angry about it. So, the editor came to me and asked me if I’d like to write the column. I picked up Savage’s book and thought it was brilliant. I started writing, the column was a hit, and I just kept expanding and syndicating it until it was in about 14 different gay newspapers. Then, it turned into a book called Men Are Pigs but We Love Bacon. That’s basically it. FULL INTERVIEW @ ONLINE PERSONALS WATCH

As Gay Media Brings In Business, PlanetOut Struggles

Planetout DOW JONES NEWSWIRE -- June 28 -- Though corporate interest in the gay dollar may be on the rise, Planet Out struggles. Their stock price is down from the IPO price of $9 (Oct. 2004) to $1.30 today. The company faces stiff competition from other media outlets, and its online business and recent acquisitions, such as RSVP Vacations, aren't performing as expected. The company is now considering strategic options, says CEO Karen Magee. She won't say whether the company is for sale, but said it may sell its adult entertainment business. PlanetOut faces stiff competition in the gay media market. Although the company doesn't own a TV network, Viacom Logo network, NBC's Bravo and Here! Networks all have Web operations. Various blogs and lifestyle sites have also popped up, like AfterEllen.com and AfterElton.com, newcomer GLEE and Queerty, social-networking sites Manhunt.net, Adam4Adam.com and OurChart.com.
