SmallWorlds Raises $2.5M in Funding

NZ HERALD - May 16 - In a round of funding, lead by TradeMe founder Sam Morgan, SmallWorlds has raised $2.5 million. The Auckland-based online game has 6.5 million subscribers. The company plans to add 20 staff members this year and reach $100 million in revenue by 2013.

SmallWorlds Brings A Third Dimension To Web 2.0

TECH CRUNCH -- May 21 -- SmallWorlds, a free browser-based 3D virtual world that integrates YouTube, Flickr, and a number of other Web 2.0 services, will be entering a public beta on June 2. The site is aimed at the teen and adult markets, and is designed to be more casual than Second Life. Users can furnish their rooms with TV sets that feature YouTube videos, posters of Flickr photos, Twitter messageboards, and stereos blasting tunes from Last.fm and SeeqPod.
